Each year, Books Forward selects an accomplished author as our “author-in-residence” to work closely with our team, so that our publicists always have a fresh understanding of promotions and publishing from an author’s point of view. We’re thrilled that acclaimed mystery writer Tori Eldridge has joined us as our 2021 author-in-residence.
Tori is the bestselling author of The Ninja Daughter, The Ninja’s Blade and the highly anticipated third book in the Lily Wong series, The Ninja Betrayed, (releasing September 14, 2021). The Ninja Daughter has been nominated for the Anthony, Lefty and Macavity Awards for Best First Novel, and it received a Library Journal Book of the Month Pick and starred review. Her books have been named one of the “Best Books of 2020” by The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, one of the “2019 Best Mystery Books of the Year” by The South Florida Sun Sentinel, and awarded the 2019 Thriller Book of the Year by Authors on the Air Global Radio Network.
Her short stories have been published in horror, dystopian and other literary anthologies, and her narrative poem appears in the inaugural reboot of Weird Tales magazine. Tori’s screenplay The Gift earned a semi-finalist spot for the Academy Nicholl Fellowship.
Before writing, Tori performed as an actress, singer, dancer on Broadway, television and film. She is of Hawaiian, Chinese, Norwegian descent and was born and raised in Honolulu where she graduated from Punahou School with classmate Barack Obama. Tori holds a fifth-degree black belt in To-Shin Do ninjutsu and has traveled the USA teaching seminars on the ninja arts, weapons, and women’s self-protection.
We are continually inspired by Tori’s commitment to social justice, equality and women’s empowerment in her writing, and we know our team will greatly benefit from her guidance in 2021.
